Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Diagonal Brush Fish Pass: Prototype Measurements

The present study investigates the hydrodynamic characteristics of diagonal brush upstream fishway at Incirli run-of-river hydropower plant on Iyidere River in Turkey. Three-dimensional velocity measurements were conducted fish pass using a Micro acoustic Doppler velocimeter under real-time operation conditions. arrangement blocks creates favorable conditions (i.e., lateral momentum exchange) that allow to minimize swimming energy. We found spatially averaged component Reynolds shear stress is 2.2 times higher than vertical stress, which could be due gradient vicinity blocks. It shown low-velocity zones behind constitute important resting sites for fish. monitoring data showed inlet water levels have considerable effects turbulence quantities. brushes become submerged with increased reservoir level from 102 m 102.05 above sea level. maximum turbulent kinetic energy was by factor three compared unsubmerged strong relationship between average dissipation rate per unit mass and number. On other hand, prototype reveal inverse Darcy-Weissbach friction relative submergence bristles. results efficient design passes.
